On Eternity

This text was fully written by humans.

  • Inspired by a recent lecture and the visit of Danish lama Ole Nydahl, I’ve started to see life as having deeper meaning. I now view the body as a temporary vessel, while the mind holds an enduring essence.
  • I’m exploring the idea that life’s purpose might be linked to concepts of reincarnation and eternal growth. Furthermore, psychologists, in particular, embody a perpetual curiosity and youthful spirit.
  • Observing how psychologists continuously learn and grow, whether through various experiences or interactions, reinforces my belief in the endless renewal of the human spirit. Overall, this suggests a simple and joyful perspective on life.

Is Human Soul Eternal?

Holidays brought me happiness, though I’m not quite sure why. Maybe it’s because I appreciate the beauty in life’s simple moments.

After a recent lecture I gave, inspired by the visit of Danish lama Ole Nydahl to Warsaw, I began to feel that my life has purpose. According to Steger, Frazier, Oishi, and Kaler (2006), a subjective sense of meaning and purpose in life is a measurable psychological construct. This construct is linked to well-being.

What Is the Body, and What Is the Mind?

I’ve started to view the body as a temporary vessel. In fact, the human mind holds incredible power and a lasting essence.

Though I haven’t fully understood this eternal form, my current view blends ideas of reincarnation. Additionally, this view includes influencing the world’s fate and a kind of rebirth as a child.

Why Do Psychologists Seem Forever Young?

Some people age, while others seem to stay forever young. Psychologists seem to fit into the latter group, which matches this idea of eternity.

According to Vail, Rothschild, Weise, Solomon, Pyszczynski and Greenberg (2010), the human awareness of mortality drives a search for symbolic and literal forms of immortality. These beliefs include enduring growth and legacy.

Their learning never stops—whether from books, concerts, or chatting with a tired stranger in a dentist’s waiting room. Indeed, according to Gruber, Gelman, and Ranganath (2014), states of curiosity measurably enhance learning and memory. Ideas come and go, whether awake or dreaming.

While others balance families and work, psychologists thrive. The curiosity of children drives growth, making the process ever more enriching.

According to Kashdan, Rose, and Fincham (2004), curiosity functions as a positive motivational drive toward novelty and challenge. Furthermore, this drive supports ongoing personal growth throughout life.

With age and wisdom, they discard old shells for new ones—that’s the core of this philosophy. According to Baltes and Staudinger (2000), wisdom develops through a lifelong orchestration of mind and virtue toward excellence.

Overall, it does not decline with age. Such a simple and joyful view of life.
